This program consists of 2 parts:
Part 1: Drug Checking Introductory Training (Open to anyone)
A series of lessons that provide a foundation of knowledge about drug checking using FTIR and immunoassay strips. The Introductory Training modules takes about 3-5 hours to complete. At the end, you will receive a certificate acknowledging the completion of the Introductory Training.
Part 2: Drug Checking Technician Practicum (For individuals already paired with an organization offering drug checking services in BC)
To be eligible for the practicum portion of this training, you must
- be training to become a drug checking technician in BC; and,
- currently sponsored by an organization that will oversee your training with an experienced technician for a minimum of 30 hands-on shadowing hours.
These hours and key learnings will be recorded in the online practicum hours log. Once these minimum hours are completed, you will be eligible to write the final practical exam to officially complete the training.
Please note: You must have an arrangement with an organization in BC that plans to engage you as a technician in order to be supported for your practicum (Part 2). Unfortunately, the BCCSU is unable to oversee your shadowing but if there is no experienced technician to oversee your practicum at your organization, please contact us and we will discuss possible options with you.
